MISSION
The primary mission of the Electron Microscopy Center (EMC) is to provide analytical microscopy and imaging support to researchers within the University of South Carolina system. To accomplish this mission, the staff of the center provides three fundamental services: research support, training, and outreach. Research support is provided by designing experimental approaches to suit the investigators' needs. The training component consists of instruction for the use of any center equipment. Formal Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis courses are also offered on a regular basis for undergraduate and graduate students on theory and application of microscopy and imaging.
The EMC's outreach program is directed towards various community groups, the states K-12 students and other higher educational institutions. The center conducts tours to visitors and students and provides information in the area of microscopy applications in various science and engineering disciplines.
The EMC also offers imaging and analytical support for local, regional, and national industrial community. The Center's personnel, student trainees, and instrumentation are available to assist industrial clients with research and quality control analysis carried out in conjunction with product development. |
